How Many Jobs Were Created or Lost in November 2014?

March 2015 jobs, unemployment reports HERE.

How Many Jobs Created (Gained) or Lost in November 2014?

  • 321,000 TOTAL payroll jobs were ADDED or CREATED in seasonally adjusted numbers.
  • 314,000 PRIVATE payroll sector jobs were ADDED or CREATED in seasonally adjusted numbers.
  • 7,000 GOVERNMENT (federal, state, and local) jobs were ADDED or CREATED in October.
  • 4,000 MORE people employed.
  • 150,000 FEWER people employed full-time.
  • 77,000 MORE people employed part-time.
  • 177,000 FEWER people employed part-time involuntarily.  (In other words, people who want full-time work but can only find part-time work.)
  • 119,000 MORE people in the civilian labor force (people either working or looking for work).
  • 115,000 MORE people unemployed.
  • Unemployment rate remains at 5.8% primarily due to an increase in the number of people who entered the labor force and started to look for work.

To Summarize:

In summary, there are many many more payroll jobs and more people employed.  Though there are about as many people newly employed part-time as full-time, the increase in the number of people working part-time is all in the "voluntary" group; that is, people working part-time by choice.

The unemployment rate stayed the same due to people entering the labor force. As usual, the numbers in any one month need to be taken with a grain of salt, as any movements in any one month are not necessarily trends.  However, we have now had 57 consecutive months of private sector job creation, a record as long as such numbers have been kept.

  1. Wow. A CLASSIC example of 'figures don't lie, but liars figure"

    Unemployment is actually 25%
More jobs were lost than added in EVERY month of 2014
Baltic Dry Index - THE REAL STORY - nears it's lowest ever recorded record.
Unadjusted for Christmas hiring, save for, OF COURSE - government jobs, as the government grows ever larger and more menacing.

'You can fool, some of the people all of the time, or all of the people, some of the time, BUT YOU CAN FOOL ALL AMERICANS ALL OF THE TIME.

    What a nation of idiots.......

    1. Please.. go back to the Borg collective known as Tyler Durden and then stop by Shadow Stats and make sure you've paid that guy your annual fees. That guy needs to buy a new car on the backs of all of the doom-and-gloomer collectivists who believe his nonsense without having the foggiest idea as to where he gets his numbers.

The Baltic Dry Index is extremely controversial as a measure of much of anything. A simple Google search would make that very clear.

And only a "fool" who has absolutely no understanding of employment/unemployment numbers would claim that "more jobs were lost than added every month in 2014." The report that tells us how many people were hired vs. how many people separated for any reason (retirement, quitting, getting laid off or fired) is the monthly JOLTS report, the Job Opening, Layoffs, and Turnover Survey. In 2014 as of October (November and December data is not yet available for this report), there were 48,000,000 people hired and there were 45,800,000 people separated for any reason. Remember that people can be hired or laid off more than once, so that is one of the reasons these numbers are so high. And the US work force is very volatile.

So we have had, through October, 2.2 million more people hired than separated.

It is frustrating that so many of the people who comment here are idiots who know NOTHING about the various economic indications or about jobs numbers.
