Information about JUNE 2013 HERE!!
The following information is about JUNE 2012. For June 2013, click the link above.
80,000 new jobs were created in the month of June 2012. NO jobs were lost (net) in the month of June 2012.
The private sector generated 84,000 new jobs, but the government sector continued to shed jobs; it lost 4,000 jobs in June 2012.
128,000 more people reported themselves as working in June 2012.
If NO jobs were lost (net) in June, why was the press so negative and the pundits so unhappy?
We need more jobs for a stronger recovery. 84,000 MORE jobs is not seen as adequate for the economy to continue to recover. We lost 8.7 million jobs during the Great Recession, the population has continued to grow, and we have recovered about 4 million jobs.
More or fewer jobs since January 2009 when Obama Took Office? More or fewer people working since January 2009 when Obama Took Office?

The unemployment rate stayed exactly the same, 8.2%, as it was in May. The static unemployment number this month was due to an increase in the civilian labor force, that is, the number of people working or looking for work. Both components of the civilian labor force, the number of people working and the number of people looking for work increased in June.
How many more jobs are there in June than there were in May 2012?
Let's look:
Let's look:
- 84,000 MORE jobs in seasonally-adjusted numbers were reported by employers now than in May 2012.
- 391,000 MORE jobs in "raw" actual numbers not adjusted for seasonal variations were reported by employers now vs. May 2012.
- 84,000 MORE private-sector jobs in seasonally-adjusted numbers were reported by employers now than in May.
- 815,000 MORE private-sector jobs in "raw" actual numbers not adjusted for seasonal variation were reported by employers now than in May. (In other words, private employers are saying that they have actually employed 815,000 more people in June than in May. June is also a hiring month, so the actual number of jobs almost always exceeds the seasonally adjusted number in June.)
- 4,000 FEWER government jobs in seasonally-adjusted numbers were reported by government employers at all levels (federal, state, and local) now than in May 2012.
- 494,000 FEWER government jobs in "raw" actual numbers not adjusted for seasonal variations were reported by government employers at all levels now in June than in May 2012.
How many more people are reporting themselves as working in June 2012 than in May 2012?
- 128,000 MORE people reported themselves as working in seasonally-adjusted numbers in June than were working in May.
- 475,000 MORE people reported themselves as working in "raw" actual numbers not adjusted for seasonal variations in June than were working in May.
(Note: All of my employment number reports are based on monthly reports and data published by the Bureau of Labor Statistics. Monthly numbers reports are based on the monthly Employment Situation Report. The Employment Situation report includes month over month and year over year jobs numbers. My analysis is taken from the monthly BLS data copied to an Excel spreadsheet every month. I calculate detailed percentage increases/decreases, 3 month numbers, 2011 to date numbers, and I compare jobs numbers to those at the time of Obama's inauguration and at the "trough" of the recession.)
